The Truth about Hypnosis

1) You cannot be made to do something you don’t want to do. This is a widely held misconception because people have been to hypnosis shows that make it appear that people are doing things that they don’t want to do. The truth is that if a hypnotist could actually make someone do what they didn’t want to do they could be rich simply by going to the bank once a week and asking for a few “extra” dollars from the clerk. The truth is that this simply doesn’t and can’t happen.
2) Everyone can be hypnotized. As long as you have an IQ of more than 70 and no severe mental or developmental disabilities you can be hypnotized. In reality, the more intelligent you are the easier it is for you to enjoy hypnosis.
3) Hypnosis works because it bypasses the critical faculty of the conscious mind. This is sometimes known as the critical mind. The critical mind is what keeps you from being able to change at a subconscious level and prevents you from making the changes you want to make even if you know at a conscious level that the changes would be good for your mental and physical health.
